Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. and his wife Rose moved their family to Hyannis Port in 1926. In the years that followed, this residence became the primary location for family gatherings and the childhood home of their children and grandchildren. As a family, and as individuals, the Kennedys interacted with their neighbors, local retailers, physicians, and tradesmen.
Over time, Cape Cod became a constant in the lives of many members of the Kennedy Family. It was the place that the family gathered for holidays and reunions. It was also a place for personal relaxation, enjoyment, reflection, and the pleasures of ordinary life. John F. Kennedy once said, “I always go to Hyannisport to be revived, to know again the power of the sea and the master who rules over it and all of us.”
The purpose of this project was to record the memories and recollections of Cape Codders who interacted with the Kennedy family during the life and Presidency of John F. Kennedy.
